I've never said I disliked Dir en grey; in fact, it was one of the first bands
that got me into Visual Kei *besides Malice Mizer and X-Japan*.

But OK, to hell with it. I don't care anymore if they release another great album or
a shitty one. It would all be the same to you, at least for those who let the fanaticism
cloud your mind, and don't come to realize the truth. *sigh*

Dir en grey was probably my favourite band before Marrow. It's true. I lost a lot of respect when I heard it, although there are some brilliant songs on there too [ie the ones where Kyo actually sings]. One or two of the heavier tracks are great as well, but overall it's too much of the new ridiculous death-metal-esque vocals which kill it for me. I've never liked that style of 'singing' - I've always felt that it undermined whatever the band was trying to say with a sound which is so absurd that they start to parody themselves.

It also doesn't help that it seems that Kyo can barely even sing live anymore - he just shouts something indecipherable every now and again and doesn't bother with the lyrics on many occasions. Many of the recent singles have been rubbish because they've had the A-side plus a few lives, which, without the visuals, become cringeworthy.

Because of these things, I no longer recommend anyone to check them out, as they only embarrass me now.

Don't get me wrong, I still love their old stuff, especially Macabre, kisou, and Vulgar. Withering to death is okay, too, but certainly not the best. I'm also excited about the new direction [if there is one]. Dozing Green was sound, although the new version of Hydra seems slightly pointless. Let's hope Glass Skin is just as good!
